Dr. Rani was born in the small town of Narsapur, Andhra Pradesh in India. For the first 30 years of her pediatric medicine career, she bought into “medical model” of healthcare pushed by western medical institutes.

But she always felt something was missing.

Dr. Rani comes from a family of physicians, who were trained both in Western medicine and exposed her to the principles of Eastern medicine, including Ayurveda. As a young girl, Dr. Rani immigrated to the US, later completing her residency at Thomas Jefferson Pediatric in Philadelphia. Initially, she bought into the “medical model” of healthcare strongly pushed by Western medical training, and tried to distance herself from Indian traditional medicine, as these holistic practices were looked down upon by the United States medical community.

Dr. Rani moved into private practice in upstate New York, practicing as a primary care pediatric physician for over 25 years. Throughout her career, she naturally took a more holistic approach to each child’s care; following up, offering check-ins by phone, and avoiding over-prescribing medication to children in favor of more natural techniques. But during her years in traditional private practice, she resisted her internal desire to offer more unorthodox pediatric treatment plans—like yoga and mindfulness—for fear of alienating her patients.

But after years of following “best practices” and seeing American children continue struggle with mental, emotional, and physical challenges—and seeing recommended best practices move towards an increasingly protocol-based treatment—she knew that the “best practices” weren’t really what was best for the children she served.

Dr. Rani realized that the Indian traditional medicine she had initially sought to distance herself from held wisdom to which Western medicine is only just now catching up, like awareness of inflammation, gut health, and mindfulness.

By embracing the whole of her medical experience and her own identity, Dr. Rani now brings the best of Western medicine and Eastern wellness together to create the best healthcare plan for your child.
